When it Rains, it Pours! May 9, 2013

Posted by Dana in Uncategorized.

April showers bring May flowers, they say.  But it seems like Spring also brings an influx of needy dogs!  This Spring is no exception, and Iron Underdawgs is drowning, my friends!  In addition to all the other foster residents that are listed on our available dogs page, May has brought the following:

Rachel was called upon to pick up 3 dogs for the county, one of which had adorable squooshy little puppies (thankfully only 3!)  They are growing fast and not so little!

Then one of our previous adoptions — Gabby — was returned….

….and then Dexter,  an adoption from 8 years ago, turned up in a shelter!  Now this senior Boston is looking for a new home when he should be retiring in the lap of luxury.  Oh, and by the way — SURPRISE! — he’s heartworm positive.

One of the new additions is Penny the Dachshund, who is about four years old and sweet as pie!  She wants to be in a lap whenever possible, and is very good with kids as you can see!  The bonus is that she is totally house trained!

We are thankful that both Gabby and our Aussie boy, Sam, have adopters lined up.

The sad news is that a longtime beloved foster, Hope, developed some kind of mass that caused a blockage and did not recover from surgery.  Efforts to save her put a serious strain on the budget, which is already a shoestring!  Her remaining hospital bill is around $1000.  Insult to injury when the outcome isn’t good.

Rest peacefully, sweet Hope.

Rest peacefully, sweet Hope.

And then… someone brought us a Parvo puppy that was rushed to the vet and did not make it.

Add to these things that one foster is being treated for mange and requires expensive medication, and we have run out of donated food…. *DEEP BREATHS*

We are putting our  heads together to come up with some fundraising ideas, but in the meantime, if you can pass around our GIVE FORWARD link to anyone you think might be interested in donating, we would REALLY appreciate it!  Thank you!
